Azerbaijani captives and civilians held hostage by Armenia, Shahbaz Guliyev and Dilgam Asgarov were brought back to Azerbaijan.
As a result of negotiations with the participation of international organizations and the Russian Peacekeeping Command, an agreement was reached with the Armenian side on the exchange of prisoners and hostages on the principle of “All to all”, and the return of prisoners and hostages began on December 14. In the afternoon, Azerbaijani prisoners and hostages, including Shahbaz Guliyev and Dilgam Asgarov, who have been held hostage by Armenians since July 2014, were brought to Baku by plane. After the implementation of appropriate quarantine measures, the released persons will be reunited with their families.
In an interview to ARB24 TV, human rights defender Ahmad Shahidov, coordinator of the Information Center for Azerbaijani Captives and Hostages, said that the release of our civilian hostages is part of President Ilham Aliyev’s iron fist strategy: “As a result of the decisive and iron fist policy of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Mr. Ilham Aliyev, our civilian hostages Dilgam Asgarov and Shahbaz Guliyev are already in the Homeland. This has caused joy to all the people of Azerbaijan. Azerbaijan continues its victory in the diplomatic sphere as well.”
