The issue of fundamental freedoms was discussed at the OSCE general assembly in Warsaw, Poland on September 23. Ahmad Shahidov, Head of the Azerbaijani Institute for Democracy and Human Rights (AIDHR) was expected to make a speech on Freedom of Assembly in South Caucasus, however, following head of Armenian NGO’s speech in which he presented Nagorno-Karabakh as an “independent and democratic country” Mr. Shahidov mainly focused on Armenia and harshly criticized aggressive and dictatorship policy pursued by Sargsyan regime.

Addressing to the Armenian speaker he harshly criticized brutal policy employed by official Yerevan. He said; “Do not deceive attendees here by calling Nagorno-Karabakh as an Independent state. Neither participants here nor Armenia itself recognize Nagorno-Karabakh as an Independent state. Behave you” he added.

While Ahmad Shahidov, Head of AIDHR was making speech, together with her 10 Armenian friends journalist Khadija Ismail protested against the speech of Mr. Shahidov by making a line having their back to him.

Not losing his common sense in face of the incident that occurred in front of audiences, Mr. Shahidov continued his speech by denouncing Armenian Government.

Regardless of our attempts to get detailed information, Ahmad Shahidov just shortly commented on the issue by associating the incident with Khadija Ismail’s being betrayal and immoral.
