Ahmad Shahidov to attend the 21st OSCE Ministerial Council

The 21st OSCE Ministerial Council will take place on 4 and 5 December 2014 in Basel, Switzerland. Annually organized international event will be attended by Ministers of Foreign Affairs from OSCE member states, governmental and other officials. The meeting which has been held since 1991 seeks to conduct discussions on recent developments in OSCE participating States, review and outline decisions concerning future plans of the organization.

This year’s event which will take place in Basel will feature of heated discussions on recent incidents in OSCE member states, in particular territorial integrities of the concerning countries and combat against terrorism. In accordance with the information provided by Ahmad Shahidov, the organization headed by him received an official accreditation to the meeting that will be joined by Elmar Mammadyarov, Foreign Affairs Minister of Azerbaijan. The statement says ”AIDHR acquired accreditation from Swiss OSCE Chairmanship as an observer. With their positive reply to our organization’s appeal OSCE issued the accreditation. Therefore, at the end of November I will pay a visit to Switzerland to attend the meeting”.

In his remarks Mr. Shahidov said that territorial integrity of OSCE countries and combat against terrorism would be main issues of the meeting. He also did not rule out discussions over Nagornoy Karabakh dispute during the meeting. The statement reads ”Main emphasize of this year’s meeting will be put on territorial integrity and struggle against terrorism in light of the incidents that occur in Ukraine. Azerbaijan that also suffered from this problem should initiate on reactivating discussions on Nagornoy Karabakh dispute. As the mediating organization in favor of peaceful resolution of the dispute, OSCE should give legal assessment on the conflict. I do believe that the 21st OSCE Ministerial Council will be pivotal for Azerbaijan”.
