Head of AIDHR informed PACE President on the state of human rights in Azerbaijan
The Standing Committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) met in Sofia, Bulgaria on November 27. The Standing Committee featured discussions on human rights, influx of refugees, discrimination and election related issues.
Joining the meeting, Ahmad Shahidov, Head of the Azerbaijani Institute for Democracy and Human Rights (AIDHR) had a short meeting with Anne Brasseur, President of PACE. During the meeting head of AIDHR elaborated on the state of human rights in Azerbaijan and voiced his hope on future close collaboration between PACE and Azerbaijan.
For her part, President of PACE expressed her concern over the jailed human rights advocates, journalists and activists in Azerbaijan. She also noted importance of carrying out necessary measures in this regard.
