“I came here to say that no news from my father since last 7 months” – Dilgam Asgarov’s son spoke at the OSCE Warsaw Meeting

On September 19, the Human Dimension Implementation Meeting (HDIM) of OSCE participating States, organized by OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) continued its work in Warsaw, Poland. Representatives of OSCE participating States, OSCE institutions, and OSCE executive structures, representatives of inter-governmental organizations, legal professionals, representatives of civil society and researchers from 57 participating States took part in discussions.

Taking an active part in discussion on the topic of “Rule of law: prevention of torture, abolition of capital punishment and fighting terrorism”, Head of Azerbaijan Institute for Democracy and Human Rights Dr. Ahmad Shahidov spoke about Azerbaijani hostages Dilgam Asgarov and Shahbaz Guliyev. Human Rights Defender said that Azerbaijani hostages have been illegally taken hostage and subjected to constant torture by armenian armed forces for last 4 years, and they have serious problems in their healths. Ahmad Shahidov has appealed to diplomats and human rights activists in the hall to hear all the truth from Dilgam Asgarov’s son Kurdoghlu’s language: “We have raised this issue for 4 years at all OSCE meetings and want to put pressure on Armenia. The armenian side has always stated that the hostages are terrorists. I want everyone to look at this young man sitting next to me. This guy’s name is Kurdoglu, he is 25 years old. He is a son of Dilgam Asgarov, who is under armenian captivity at present. See, does this young man look like a terrorist or a son of terrorist?! This boy’s family was forced to leave the Kalbajar region 25 years ago. Their family members and relatives were killed by the armenian armed forces. Today, armenian armed forces keep his father, Dilgam Asgarov, as hostage and torture him.”

Speaking in front of all participants of the meeting, Kurdoglu Asgarov has appealed to ambassadors and diplomats from 57 OSCE participating States: “I came here to say that no news from my father since last 7 months, we are very worried. My father is a citizen of the Russian Federation and has been taken hostage by armenian armed forces 4 years ago. Our family is in trouble. My dad is old and sick. We want him to be released. I am asking the ambassadors here to work for the release of my father and to put pressure on the Armenian authorities. OSCE participating States should show that they protect the rights of all people. They should also protect our rights.”

After the meeting, ambassadors and diplomats of several countries, heads of international human rights organizations approached Kurdoglu Asgarov, got detailed information about his father and took an interest in the current situation of the Azerbaijani hostages.
