“The Vienna meeting will give impetus to the exchange of captives and hostages” – human rights defender

On March 29, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan held a meeting in Vienna. The meeting, which took place through the mediation of the OSCE Minsk Group, was held in a normal and constructive atmosphere.

During the meeting, discussions were held to support a range of humanitarian actions by strengthening mutual trust among the conflicting sides. Commenting on the Vienna meeting, human rights defender Ahmad Shahidov said that the issue of exchanging Azerbaijani captives and hostages will be put on the agenda again: “Effective passage of the Vienna meeting creates new hopes. And one of these hopes is related to Azerbaijani captives and hostages. It is not casual that the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, in his interview after the meeting, raised the issue of humanitarian actions. I think that the issue of exchanging captives and hostages will come up again to establish mutual trust between the sides. The Vienna meeting will give impetus to this process.”
