Ersin Tatar comes to Baku – Azerbaijan is one step closer to recognizing Northern Cyprus

A new phase is clearly seen in Azerbaijan’s policy towards the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. While Karabakh was under occupation, hesitations about the recognition of the independence of Northern Cyprus are long gone. A while ago, the delegation of the Azerbaijani parliament visited Lefkosha and held diplomatic talks with Turkish Cypriot officials, announcing the start of a new phase.

Most likely, Azerbaijan will be the second country after Turkiye to recognize the TRNC. In this respect, Ersin Tatar’s visit to Baku can be unforgettable. It should be noted that the founding President of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, Rauf Denktaş, was the guest of the late President Heydar Aliyev in Baku. Tatar’s visit will be the second such visit.

As the guest of Seda Anik at the “Daily” program of the Ulusal Channel, Head of the Turkish Institute for Democracy and Human Rights Dr. Ahmad Shahidov said that after Azerbaijan officially recognizes the TRNC, other members of the Organization of Turkish States will establish official relations with the TRNC.
