Ahmad Shair Shahidov

Ahmad Shahidov was born on August 31, 1982 in the Gakh region of Azerbaijan.

In 1999, he graduated from school-lyceum No. 83 of Binagadi district of Baku city.

In 1999-2003 he received a bachelor’s degree from the Russian Language and Literature Faculty of Baku Slavic University, in 2003-2005 he continued his education at the Master’s level of Baku Slavic University, and in 2005-2008 at the Postgraduate Department of Baku Slavic University.

In 2009 he was awarded the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Philology by the decision of the Supreme Attestation Commission under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

In 2009-2014, he studied at the Faculty of Law of the Russian Academy of Public Administration under the President of the Russian Federation in Moscow, Russia. He is a lawyer with higher education.

In 2011-2012 he worked in the Milli Majlis (Parliament) of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

In 2013-2014, he served as Secretary General of the TURSAM Center for Strategic Studies. As the head of TURSAM, he participated in international events and conferences in Turkey, Northern Cyprus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and other Turkic-speaking autonomous republics, and made numerous speeches on the need for the Turkish Union.

Since 2014, he has been the director of the Azerbaijan Institute for Democracy and Human Rights (www.aidhr.org). He has worked in many countries to convey the truth about Azerbaijan and to present the humanitarian consequences of the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno Karabakh conflict to the world community.

He has made numerous speeches and reports at the OSCE, PACE, UN and other influential international organizations on the protection of Azerbaijan’s national interests, especially Azerbaijani refugees and internally displaced persons, as well as Azerbaijani captives and hostages.

During the parliamentary elections held in Azerbaijan on November 1, 2015, he was a candidate from Gakh Constituency No. 112. According to the official results announced by the Central Election Commission of Azerbaijan, he took the second place with 2735 votes. He is not a member of any political party.

Since 2018, he has been the coordinator of the Information Center for Azerbaijani Captives and Hostages (www.hostages.az). He spoke at a number of international organizations about the illegal detention of Azerbaijani hostages Dilgam Asgarov and Shahbaz Guliyev, and continues to work for the release of Azerbaijani hostages.

Ahmad Shahidov, who signed a number of projects to strengthen the Azerbaijani diaspora and effectively fight against Armenian lies, organized events, conferences, actions and rallies with Azerbaijani diaspora activists in several countries around the world, and repeatedly took part in protests in front of Armenian embassies in Europe. In addition, he created the Diaspora.az portal to support Azerbaijan’s state diaspora policy and is currently the editor-in-chief of this site.

During the early parliamentary elections held in Azerbaijan on February 9, 2020, he was a candidate from Gakh Constituency No. 112. According to the official results announced by the Central Election Commission of Azerbaijan, he took the second place with 4186 votes. He is not a member of any political party.


Ahmad Shahidov, the author of 6 books, periodically publishes socio-political articles in the press.
