Both amendments were explicitly anti-Azerbaijan and had long been proposed by Democrat Congressman Brad Sherman from California. The first amendment sought to prohibit the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation from supporting projects in Azerbaijan, while the second proposed removing the U.S. President\u2019s authority to suspend the effect of Section 907 of the \u201cFreedom Support Act.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This decision demonstrates another defeat for the Armenian lobby in Congress, which opposes U.S. President Donald Trump\u2019s peace initiatives between Armenia and Azerbaijan.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to ARB24 Television, political analyst Ahmad Shahidov stated, \u201cThe rejection of both amendments is an important step for strengthening Azerbaijan\u2019s relations with the U.S. and maintaining a balanced policy in the region.
