Today\u2019s discussions focused on freedom of religion or belief, tolerance and the prevention of discrimination.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking after the meeting, human rights defender Ahmad Shahidov said that freedom of religion or belief remains an important and relevant issue across the OSCE region. He noted that some OSCE participating States, including France and Austria, have restrictions concerning the wearing of hijab and other religious clothing.<\/p>\n<p>Ahmad Shahidov also referred to various reports and videos circulating on social media claiming that girls wearing hijab or headscarves have recently been denied access to schools in Azerbaijan. The human rights defender stressed that although these reports have not been officially confirmed, the issue should be carefully investigated. According to him, if girls are denied access to school solely because they wear hijab or a religious head covering, this raises serious questions regarding freedom of religion or belief and the right to education.<\/p>\n<p>The human rights defender also commented on the decision adopted by the Cabinet of Ministers of Azerbaijan on October 6, 2026, concerning the dress code for educators in state general education institutions. He stressed that Azerbaijan\u2019s status as a secular state and the establishment of unified, neat and professional clothing standards for teachers are positive measures.
