On September 30, the OSCE Human Dimension Conference began in Warsaw, the capital of Poland. Human rights, fundamental freedoms and conflicts in the OSCE region were discussed at the annual meeting attended by ambassadors, diplomats and official representatives of 57 countries.
Discussions held in the second half of the day on October 1 were held on the topic of “Democratic elections”. The head of the Institute for Democracy and Human Rights Dr. Ahmad Shahidov, who closely participated in the discussions, spoke about the early elections to the Milli Majlis (Parliament) of Azerbaijan held on September 1 and drew attention to the very low voter turnout in the 113th Gakh-Sheki electoral district where he was a candidate to MP.
Stating that citizens are not interested in the election, human rights defender Ahmat Shahidov said that the official results announced by the Central Election Commission of Azerbaijan are far from reality and noted that Azerbaijan still has a long way to go for fair elections.
