The European Parliament’s approval of a €90 billion support package for Ukraine once again demonstrates Brussels’ political priorities and long-term strategic approach. The decision is seen as a significant step aimed at ensuring financial stability in Ukraine amid the ongoing war, as well as safeguarding European security.
Human rights defender Ahmad Shahidov told AnewZ that the decision represents not only financial assistance but also the EU’s commitment to international law and the principle of sovereignty: “What is happening in Ukraine has long gone beyond a regional conflict. It is a test of international law and European credibility. Brussels is showing that stability and continuity are its core priorities and that Ukraine cannot function without predictable support.”
Ahmad Shahidov also emphasized that the package strengthens Europe’s diplomatic position and places the EU on a long-term strategic course: “Guaranteed financial support enables Ukraine to negotiate from a stronger position. This decision shows that Europe is moving beyond short-term crisis management toward sustained strategic engagement and is demonstrating the political will to protect the rules-based international order.”
