The resolution adopted against Azerbaijan during the summer session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) has sparked broad international debate. Commenting on the issue, human rights defender Ahmad Shahidov gave an interview to Real Television, where he analyzed the developments within PACE and assessed the Assembly’s approach toward Azerbaijan.
Ahmad Shahidov stated that PACE’s latest resolution is a continuation of the double standards the organization has applied toward Azerbaijan for many years. “Even after Azerbaijan fully restored its territorial integrity and sovereignty, biased approaches toward our country continue. Unfortunately, certain political groups and lobbying circles within the Assembly seek to adopt decisions based on political agendas rather than objective realities,” he said.
The human rights defender emphasized that Azerbaijan should respond to such initiatives with a more active and systematic presence on international platforms. According to Ahmad Shahidov, state institutions, the media, civil society organizations, and the Azerbaijani diaspora should work in close coordination to counter disinformation campaigns and consistently present Azerbaijan’s legitimate position to the international community in a professional and effective manner.
