The German-Azerbaijani Strategic Partnership and Connectivity Conference 2026 was held in Baku on October 6, bringing together government officials, business leaders, financial institutions and international partners to discuss investment and cooperation opportunities along the Middle Corridor. Organized by the German-Azerbaijani Chamber of Commerce (AHK Azerbaijan), the conference focused on financing infrastructure, transport, logistics, green energy and digital connectivity, with particular attention to strengthening economic ties between Azerbaijan, Germany and the wider European region.
Speaking to the English-language AnewZ Television, political analyst Dr. Ahmad Shahidov said the conference was taking place at a particularly important time for Azerbaijan-Germany and Azerbaijan-EU relations. According to Shahidov, the changing geopolitical and economic environment has increased the importance of reliable energy supplies, diversified transportation routes and strategic partnerships. He noted that Azerbaijan’s geographical position between Europe, the South Caucasus and Central Asia gives the country a unique opportunity to serve as a major bridge between European and Asian markets.
Shahidov also highlighted the growing importance of the Middle Corridor, saying that Azerbaijan’s role extends beyond being an energy supplier. He emphasized that the country has the potential to become a major regional hub for transportation, logistics, energy and digital connectivity. According to the analyst, Germany can play an important role in this process through investment, advanced technologies and industrial expertise, while Azerbaijan can offer its strategic geographical position and developing infrastructure. He stressed that cooperation in renewable energy, digitalization, infrastructure and logistics could give a new practical dimension to the strategic partnership between Baku and Berlin.
The political analyst further underlined that Azerbaijan’s importance for Europe should be viewed in a broader context, encompassing energy security, trade, transportation and connectivity with Central Asia. Shahidov said that stronger Azerbaijan-Germany relations could contribute to deeper Azerbaijan-EU cooperation and create new opportunities for European businesses in the South Caucasus and beyond. In his view, the key challenge now is to transform political agreements and high-level dialogue into concrete investment projects, technological partnerships and long-term economic cooperation.
