A talk show aired on Egypt’s prominent Al Qahera News channel discussed rising tensions around Iran, particularly risks related to the Strait of Hormuz, as well as alternative energy and transport routes. The program featured Azerbaijani human rights defender Ahmad Shahidov and Indian retired Colonel G.S. Sood.
During the discussion, Ahmad Shahidov stated that uncertainty around the Strait of Hormuz poses serious risks to global trade and energy security, increasing interest in alternative routes. He noted that under these conditions, Azerbaijan stands out as a stable and reliable transit country, offering a real alternative for international cargo transportation.
Ahmad Shahidov emphasized that the North–South Transport Corridor has gained even greater strategic importance today. He pointed out that transporting goods from Asia and Eurasia to Europe via Azerbaijan is not only time-efficient but also safer in terms of political risks. This strengthens Azerbaijan’s role in the global logistics network.
During the debate, Ahmad Shahidov highlighted that India is also among the key actors interested in developing alternative routes, and in this context, routes passing through the South Caucasus are gaining significance. He noted that Azerbaijan plays a bridging role, contributing to both regional and global economic connectivity.
In conclusion, Ahmad Shahidov stressed that Azerbaijan has become a reliable partner thanks to its infrastructure investments and balanced foreign policy in recent years. He stated that amid tensions around Iran, the growing importance of alternative transport and energy routes further enhances Azerbaijan’s strategic significance.
