August 14 marks Pakistan’s National Independence Day. The day commemorates Pakistan’s independence in 1947 and is celebrated every year by the Pakistani people with great pride and enthusiasm.
Political commentator and human rights defender Ahmad Shahidov, who is currently in Washington DC, congratulated the people and government of Pakistan on the occasion of National Independence Day. Emphasizing that Azerbaijan and Pakistan are not simply friendly countries but brotherly nations, Shahidov particularly recalled Pakistan’s support for Azerbaijan during the Second Karabakh War in 2020, stressing that this support will never be forgotten by the Azerbaijani people.
In his message, Ahmad Shahidov said that, as a human rights defender, he has repeatedly raised human rights issues in Jammu and Kashmir during his speeches at international organizations and has sought to make the voice of the Pakistani people heard by the international community. He described Pakistan as the only Muslim-majority country possessing nuclear weapons and said that Pakistan is a source of pride for many people across the Muslim world. Shahidov also sent warm greetings to his many friends in Pakistan, expressed his desire to visit Islamabad, Karachi and other cities, and wished the Pakistani people peace, prosperity and success. He concluded his message by saying, “Pakistan Zindabad!”
