Foreign media representatives attend event at the U.S. Department of State

The Washington Foreign Press Center of the U.S. Department of State hosted its annual reception on September 2. Journalists representing media organizations from different countries around the world, Foreign Press Center staff, and representatives of various offices of the U.S. Department of State attended the event. The reception provided an opportunity for journalists, as well as media representatives and Department of State officials, to exchange views on a range of issues.

Ahmad Shahidov, a journalist and human rights advocate based in Washington, also participated in the event. During the reception, Shahidov exchanged views on the activities of the U.S. Department of State, recent developments on the international agenda, the work of journalists in the United States and internationally, as well as media-government relations.

As part of the event, Ahmad Shahidov also had a brief informal conversation with U.S. Department of State Spokesperson Tommy Pigott. They exchanged views on the Department’s daily press briefings, the messages delivered during those briefings, and the main directions of U.S. foreign policy. They also discussed the role of the media in covering international developments and the importance of the U.S. foreign policy agenda for journalists.
