U.S. Vice President James David Vance’s visit and the Azerbaijan–Armenia peace agenda discussed on ARB24 Television – Ahmad Shahidov comments

In the coming days, U.S. Vice President James David Vance is expected to visit the South Caucasus, with the peace agenda and the acceleration of the TRIPP project in the region being key topics. The Azerbaijan–Armenia peace agenda, Armenia–Russia relations, Russia’s interest in joining the TRIPP project, conflicts of interest in the South Caucasus, and Azerbaijan’s balanced approach with all major power centers have recently been at the forefront of regional and international attention. Vice President Vance’s upcoming visit to the region also attracts special focus in this context.

Commenting on the issue, political analyst Ahmad Shahidov stated that the U.S.-mediated peace process lays the foundation for stability, development, and cooperation in the South Caucasus: “The opening of communication and railway lines between Azerbaijan and Armenia is already on the agenda. During Vice President Vance’s visit to both Armenia and Azerbaijan, concrete discussions on these matters are expected to take place.”

Ahmad Shahidov also addressed Russia’s interest in joining the TRIPP project, noting that while the desire is understandable, it is not realistic: “Russia cannot participate in this project under any circumstances. Russia and Iran are already losing their former influence in the region. Azerbaijan, meanwhile, maintains its position as a key regional actor by pursuing a balanced and pragmatic policy with all major power centers.”
