The Azerbaijani delegation should return to PACE: Ahmad Shahidov assesses the Winter Session

Today, on January 30, the Winter Session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) concluded its work. During the session, international security, regional conflicts, human rights, the war in Ukraine, the situation in the Middle East, and political processes within the Assembly were among the main topics of discussion.

Commenting on the outcomes of the Winter Session, human rights defender Ahmad Shahidov released a video assessment analyzing developments from the first day of the session to its final meeting. He noted that debates within PACE frequently reflected selective and biased approaches toward Azerbaijan, with political positions often overshadowing objective facts.

Ahmad Shahidov emphasized that despite existing double standards, Azerbaijan’s absence from the PACE floor does not change the situation. In his view, this is precisely why the return of the Azerbaijani delegation to PACE is necessary in order to articulate the country’s position directly, respond promptly to unfounded accusations, and defend national interests more effectively at the international level.
