Ahmad Shahidov spoke at the OSCE about women’s rights and domestic violence in Azerbaijan

On September 30, the OSCE Human Dimension Conference began in Warsaw, the capital of Poland. Human rights, fundamental freedoms and conflicts in the OSCE region were discussed at the annual meeting attended by ambassadors, diplomats and official representatives of 57 countries.

Discussions held on October 10 were held on the topic “Tolerance and non-discrimination: equality of opportunity for women and men, violence against women”. The head of the Institute for Democracy and Human Rights Dr. Ahmad Shahidov, who closely participated in the discussions, spoke about women’s rights in Azerbaijan. Noting that Azerbaijani women play an active role in the social and political life of the country, human rights defender Ahmad Shahidov also spoke about domestic violence, early marriages, and girls’ evasion of education.

Human rights defender Ahmad Shahidov drew attention to the activities of the Azerbaijan Ombudsman Office, said that Ombudsman Mrs. Sabina Aliyeva is actively working in the field of women’s rights and that the Ombudsman Office is conducting systematic work in the field of protection of women subjected to domestic violence in the regions.
