“Court decision on Dilgam and Shahbaz is contrary to the Geneva Convention of 1949” – Report on the hostages from Kalbajar in OSCE Seminar

23-11-2016_640On November 23, OSCE Human Dimension Seminar “Promoting effective and integral justice systems: how to ensure the independence and quality of the judiciary” has ended in Warsaw, Poland. Representatives of OSCE participating States, OSCE institutions, and OSCE executive structures, representatives of inter-governmental organizations, legal professionals, representatives of civil society and researchers from 57 participating States discussed justice systems, courts and the independence of judges in OSCE region.

Participating in the discussion Ahmad Shahidov, Head of Azerbaijan Institute for Democracy and Human Rights touched on the relations between civil society and the courts, talked about the role of civil society in producing an independent and fair judicial decision.

Talking about the countries, where courts make political, religious and ethnic grounds decisions, Head of AIDHR spoke about three Azerbaijanis taken hostage by armenian soldiers in July 2014 – Hasan Hasanov, Dilgam Asgarov and Shahbaz Guliyev. Hasan Hasanov was brutally killed by armenians, said human rights defender and spoke about the trial on two civilians – Dilgam Asgarov and Shahbaz Guliyev. The trial is based on the false and contrary to the Geneva Convention of 1949, said Ahmad Shahidov.

During the speech of Ahmad Shahidov, representative of Armenia left the meeting hall and refused to respond to the allegations.
