“German correspondent Chase Winter, who supports terror act in Istanbul, must be punished” – Ahmad Shahidov raised the issue at the OSCE

Human rights defender Ahmad Shahidov spoke about the Istanbul terror act in OSCE meeting on the topic of “Propaganda of hatred in the media: self-regulation & journalism ethics”

On December 13-14, OSCE Media Conference “Propaganda of hatred in the media: self-regulation & journalism ethics”, organized by the Office of the OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media took place in Vienna, Austria. Representatives of OSCE participating States, OSCE institutions, and OSCE executive structures, representatives of inter-governmental organizations, legal professionals, representatives of civil society and researchers from 57 participating States discussed the propaganda in the media and journalistic ethics during conflicts, different opinions were expressed and stressed the importance of non-participation of independent media in war propaganda.

Participating in the discussion on December 13, Ahmad Shahidov, Head of Azerbaijan Institute for Democracy and Human Rights spoke about the terror act in Istanbul and condemned the terrorism. Ahmad Shahidov said that couple hours after terror act in Istanbul on December 10, German Deutsche Welle (DW) correspondent Chase Winter wrote on his Twitter account the following: “Istanbul bombing appears to be very successful PKK/TAK terror attack for psychological reasons more than human toll”.

“This is not journalism and I condemn in the strongest terms this matter. Because it is a hate speech and German Deutsche Welle (DW) correspondent Chase Winter must be punished“, said Ahmad Shahidov.
