“People’s rights are being violated in New Caledonia” – Dr. Ahmad Shahidov criticized France in the OSCE

On May 27, a two-day conference on “Media Literacy and Democracy: Supplementary Human Dimension Meeting II” organized by the Maltese OSCE Chairpersonship, the OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media, the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) started in Vienna, the capital of Austria.

At the meeting attended by ambassadors, diplomats and government officials of 57 OSCE member states, issues of media literacy and democracy in the OSCE region were discussed.

Human rights defender Dr. Ahmad Shahidov, who participated in the meeting, harshly criticized the French government and brought the events in New Caledonia to the attention of the meeting participants. Dr. Ahmad Shahidov pointed out that human rights and fundamental freedoms were grossly violated in New Caledonia and said that the rights of the local Caledonian people were violated by France and asked the OSCE member states to react to what happened in New Caledonia today.
