On July 1-5, Tbilisi hosted an event organized by the Friedrich Naumann Foundation and the Europe-Georgia Institute. With the participation of socially-active young people mainly from the Eastern Partnership countries – Azerbaijan, Georgia, Armenia, Ukraine, Belarus and the Russian Federation, discussions were held on democratic reforms, human rights, peace and dialogue in the region.
Representatives from Azerbaijan – human rights defender Ahmad Shahidov, leading researcher of the Institute of Oriental Studies of Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences Subhan Talibli and chairman of the Georgian Association of Azerbaijani Lawyers (GAHA) Ali Badirov attended the discussions.
Human rights defender Ahmad Shahidov talked about the humanitarian consequences of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, spoke about the Azerbaijani refugees and internally displaced persons, as well as captives and hostages. Positively evaluating the recent steps taken to exchange the captives and hostages, the human rights defender said that he hopes these humanitarian contacts will be continued.
