89-year-old resident of Alatamir village: “MP has not been here for recent 20 years, we do not know him”

A well-known human rights defender, Ahmad Shahidov, a candidate for deputy from the 112th Gakh constituency, visited Alatamir village of Gakh region. During a warm conversation, the 89-year-old Alatamir village resident, elder Nuru Baba said that ethnic Georgian residents in the village will vote for the candidate who is originally from Gakh region, adding that Azer Karimli, a Gakh MP for 20 years, had never been to the village and no one had seen him in the village yet.

Biography: Ahmad Shahidov was born in 1982 in the Gakh region. He graduated from Baku Slavic University with bachelor’s, master’s and post graduate degrees. He is PhD in Philology. He graduated from the State Law Faculty of the Russian Academy of Public Administration under the President of the Russian Federation in Moscow.

He is a director of the Azerbaijan Institute of Democracy and Human Rights, and also a Coordinator of the Information Center for Azerbaijani Captives and Hostages.

He is a human rights defender, socio-political activist, journalist, poet, writer, author of 7 books.

Besides that he has attended a series of international conferences, held various meetings with the top officials of the European institutions, human rights, watchdog organizations and signed mutual understanding agreements as a human rights defender.
