The Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Armenia have agreed to a temporary humanitarian ceasefire from 00:00 local time on October 18.

The decision was made in accordance with the statement of the Presidents of the United States, the French Republic and the Russian Federation, representing the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs, dated October 1, 2020, the statement of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs dated October 5 and the Moscow statement of October 10, 2020.

A live debate on the topic was organized on the Al Jazeera Arabic channel. Ahmad Shahidov, head of the Azerbaijan Institute for Democracy and Human Rights, and Tigran Kapoyan, an Armenian journalist, came face to face in the debate.

Azerbaijani human rights defender Ahmad Shahidov said that the Armenian army violated the ceasefire, fired on the villages on the line of contact and killed civilians. The human rights defender said that Armenia must withdraw its soldiers from all occupied territories and stressed the need to restore the territorial integrity of the Republic of Azerbaijan. And only then can we talk about the possibility of any peace talks between the sides.
