During the Soviet era – General Secretary of the Communist Party of Azerbaijan in 1969-1982, and after gaining independence – President of the Republic of Azerbaijan in 1993-2003, Heydar Aliyev is accepted and loved as the Great Leader of the Azerbaijani people.
