“Armenia’s claims of `strained humanitarian situation in the region’ are calculated to disrupt the peace process” – Dr. Ahmad Shahidov told ARB24 channel

The allegations of the ‘strained humanitarian situation’ in the region are the political adventure and manipulation of Armenia, Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry said commenting on the statement of the Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan. The latter voiced the allegations at the press conference with Alexander Schallenberg, Austria’s federal minister for European and international affairs, on July 18.

“The objection to the transportation of goods along the Aghdam-Khankandi road proposed by Azerbaijan is an example of the groundlessness of these allegations. The distortion by Armenia of the decision of the International Court of July 6, 2023 on the unanimous rejection of the demand of the Armenian side to liquidate the Lachin checkpoint, as well as a military provocation against this checkpoint, smuggling attempts indicate that Armenia does not intend to comply with international norms and principles,” the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry said.

Commenting on the issue to ARB24 Television, human rights defender Dr. Ahmad Shahidov assessed this statement by the Armenian side as an attempt to disrupt the peace process and said that after the Brussels meeting, official Yerevan attacked peace with such statements: “Armenia is once again trying to disrupt the peace process with provocative statements. Some positive progress was achieved in the meeting between Ilham Aliyev and Nikol Pashinyan in Brussels. But immediately after that, provocative statements are coming from Yerevan. The Russian factor cannot be ignored here as well. But in any case, the Azerbaijani side has mobilized all opportunities for peace. It would be good if Armenia evaluates these proposals in time.”
