On January 30, a side event on Azerbaijan was held within the framework of the Winter Session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe. The main organizer of the event, which was initiated by a Spanish MP named Laura Castel Fort, was political emigrant Emin Huseynov.
In their speeches, Emin Huseynov and others slandered the Azerbaijani state, demanded the expulsion of Azerbaijan from the Council of Europe in general, and demanded the imposition of serious sanctions against Baku.
Speaking at the event, human rights defender Ahmad Shahidov recalled the basic principles of the Council of Europe and stated that from time to time these principles were grossly violated and that the organization had become a platform for political pressure against individual countries.
