The Spring Session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) began on April 7, 2025, in Strasbourg, France. Key international topics on the agenda include the political situation in Georgia, the arrest of the Mayor of Istanbul and the state of human rights in Türkiye, accountability and justice regarding the war in Ukraine, and calls to lift the humanitarian blockade in Gaza.
Human rights defender Dr. Ahmad Shahidov, currently in Strasbourg, is closely following the Spring Session. In an interview with ARB24 channel, Dr. Ahhmad Shahidov shared his views on the key topics under discussion and emphasized that double standards are widely observed within the PACE platform when it comes to human rights and democracy issues around the world.
It is expected that critical statements will also be made regarding Azerbaijan, particularly calls to pressure Baku to release ethnic Armenian individuals currently on trial.
Other agenda items include developments in Serbia, Hungary, Kosovo, relations with Latin America, and the protection of the environment through criminal law.
