The leaders of the major European Union states — German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, French President Emmanuel Macron, and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer have visited the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv. Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk also joined them. The main purpose of the visit is to deliver a message of military and economic support to Ukraine while also presenting a unified position against Russia’s increasing military pressures and geopolitical plans in the region.
Political commentator Dr. Ahmad Shahidov stated in an interview to ARB24 Television that Russia’s plans to fully annex all Ukrainian territory and create a new reality in the region are causing significant concern in Europe. For this reason, European leaders are visiting Ukraine to try to agree on an urgent action plan.
“Russia aims not only to annex Donbas and Crimea but the entire territory of Ukraine and bring it back into its sphere of influence. This is a direct threat not just to Ukraine but to the entire security of Europe. Currently, European leaders are forming a united front against this threat and are preparing a concrete action plan,” said Dr. Ahmad Shahidov.
According to the commentator, another important aspect of the visit is the support for the 30-day unconditional ceasefire call made by the U.S. President. This confirms the existence of political consensus within the international community surrounding Ukraine and significantly limits Russia’s maneuvering capabilities in the region.
“This visit sends Ukraine not only a political but also a concrete military and economic support message. The West is establishing a more coordinated defense and diplomatic strategy against Russia’s plans,” emphasized Dr. Ahmad Shahidov.
