Today, the situation in the Ukraine-Russia war has become even more tense. In recent days, massive airstrikes and missile attacks carried out by the Russian army against Ukrainian cities have raised serious concerns within the international community. At the same time, emerging diplomatic disagreements within the United States and the European Union have further increased the uncertainty surrounding the future prospects of the conflict. Against this backdrop, political experts in Azerbaijan are also discussing the potential consequences of the war and its impact on the international security balance.
To clarify these issues, political commentator Ahmad Shahidov appeared today on the “Agenda” program aired on ARB24 television. In the broadcast, the expert provided an in-depth analysis of the latest situation on the Ukraine-Russia front, the possibilities of a ceasefire, the conditions put forward by both sides for negotiations, and the positions of international powers.
Ahmad Shahidov stated in his remarks that by May 2025, the war has entered a new, more dangerous phase. According to him, Russia’s recent air assault involving 367 missiles and drones was the largest mass strike in the history of the conflict and has changed both the intensity and geography of the war. The expert emphasized that Ukraine’s defense capabilities are now seriously being tested, and arms deliveries from the West hold critical importance.
During the program, the political analyst also touched upon the positions of the warring parties regarding negotiations. He noted that currently, the positions of Russia and Ukraine on achieving peace differ significantly. The Russian side demands that Ukraine halt its mobilization and cease arms supplies from the West as conditions for a ceasefire. Meanwhile, Ukraine is only prepared to start negotiations after the withdrawal of Russian forces from occupied territories and the announcement of a ceasefire.
Ahmad Shahidov also highlighted the approaches of the United States and the European Union to the issue. He stated that Washington’s direct contacts with Moscow and Europe’s efforts to strengthen its own defense capacity through new initiatives could impact the security balance in the region. In the analyst’s view, the emerging situation poses a threat not only to Ukraine but to Europe as a whole, and in the coming months, the fate of the conflict will depend on the positions adopted by global powers.
