“Artificial intelligence technologies pose both opportunities and risks for human rights” – Ahmad Shahidov participated in international conference in Doha

On May 27-28, 2025, an international conference titled “Artificial Intelligence and Human Rights: Opportunities, Risks, and Perspectives for a Better Future” was held in Doha, the capital of Qatar. Organized by the Qatar National Human Rights Committee and the United Nations, this prestigious event brought together human rights experts, defenders, government officials, representatives of international organizations, and specialists in artificial intelligence technologies from various countries around the world.

Within the framework of the international conference, human rights defender Ahmad Shahidov made a brief video statement regarding the event.

In a spontaneous comment, Ahmad Shahidov noted that the rapid development of artificial intelligence technologies opens new opportunities for humanity but also creates serious risks for human rights and freedoms. According to him, today the impact of artificial intelligence on information security, privacy, freedom of expression, and discrimination has become a key topic of discussion.

Ahmad Shahidov emphasized that Azerbaijan is not excluded from this process and that there is a need to improve legal mechanisms in this field within the country. The human rights defender stressed that international cooperation and exchange of experience are crucial to ensure artificial intelligence does not conflict with human rights.

“Today’s event is an important platform at the international level to seek solutions to these problems and to regulate artificial intelligence technologies with respect to human rights. As the Azerbaijani delegation, we expressed our position, shared our experience, and established new partnerships for future cooperation,” Ahmad Shahidov stated.

It should be noted that within the framework of the international event, human rights defenders, government officials, and representatives of international organizations extensively discuss the impact of artificial intelligence on human rights and ways to prevent risks in this area.
