“The greatest threat to stability in the region is the delay in the peace agreement” — Dr. Ahmad Shahidov spoke on ARB24 Television

In the aftermath of the 44-day Patriotic War between Armenia and Azerbaijan in 2020, the signing of a peace agreement remains one of the main agenda items in the region. At a time when geopolitical interests clash in the South Caucasus, the increased activity of major powers — especially the United States, Russia, and the European Union — is observed. With the ongoing process of border delimitation and reopening of communication routes, the risk of military clashes and security threats in the region remains relevant.

In this context, political analyst Dr. Ahmad Shahidov shared his views on the “Business Morning” program broadcast on ARB24. During the program, he stated that the failure to sign a peace agreement poses a serious threat to the region and causes the situation to remain tense. Dr. Shahidov noted that the growing interests and initiatives of the United States in the South Caucasus present additional diplomatic challenges for both Armenia and Azerbaijan.

The political analyst emphasized that Azerbaijan maintains a balanced stance in its foreign policy and cautiously manages relations with regional countries and major powers. According to him, as long as the peace agreement is not signed, the risk of military clashes along border areas and the possibility of the activation of revanchist forces remain.

The program also extensively discussed Armenia’s internal political situation, the activities of revanchist forces, and the impact of these factors on the peace process.
