The war between Israel and Iran has entered its third day. According to the latest information, Iran once again launched missile and drone attacks on Israeli territory. As a result, 14 people were killed in Bat Yam and other cities, with hundreds injured. In retaliation, Israel targeted military and strategic sites in Tehran as part of the “Operation Rising Lion.” Iran reported dozens of casualties from these strikes. International organizations and G7 leaders have called for increased diplomatic efforts to prevent the conflict from escalating further in the region.
Commenting on the situation, political analyst Dr. Ahmad Shahidov told ARB24’s “What They Say” program that Azerbaijan is closely monitoring the developments in the region and supports strengthening diplomatic initiatives to avoid further escalation. He emphasized that Azerbaijan has always advocated for regional stability and security and that, under the current circumstances, all parties should prioritize peace and dialogue.
Dr. Ahmad Shahidov also addressed reports in the Armenian press suggesting that Iran’s weakening could strengthen the positions of Azerbaijan and Turkey regarding the Zangezur Corridor issue. He stressed that Azerbaijan does not exploit regional events for its own interests and supports the opening of the Zangezur Corridor through economic cooperation and peaceful negotiations involving all regional countries.
Finally, Dr. Ahmad Shahidov stated that Azerbaijan, considering the potential impacts of the current military-political situation on its borders and economic projects, is enhancing all necessary precautionary measures and closely following the process.
