The war between Israel and Iran in the Middle East has been ongoing for a week. The conflict is primarily carried out through missile strikes and air attacks. Both sides are targeting each other’s military and civilian infrastructure with ballistic missiles, drones, and air raids. According to the latest reports, Iranian rockets struck the Soroka Hospital in southern Israel, injuring dozens of people. In retaliation, Israel launched airstrikes on the Arak heavy water reactor near Tehran and other strategic sites.
The likelihood of the war escalating further is increasing. In particular, the possibility of direct US military intervention is being seriously discussed in international media and political circles. Washington has already provided strategic support to Israel, including delivering “bunker buster” bombs. If the US directly enters the military operations, it could dramatically change the situation in the region.
This issue was also discussed today on ARB24 Television’s “Agenda” program. Political analyst Dr. Ahmad Shahidov noted that the Israel-Iran conflict has effectively turned into a large-scale war of missile and air strikes, posing a major threat to the entire region. According to him, US involvement in the conflict now seems highly likely, and if that happens, Iran’s position will become even more difficult.
Dr. Shahidov also stated that Russia, China, and Turkey currently maintain a cautious stance, but as the conflict expands, these countries will inevitably have to clarify their positions. Iran, on the other hand, is currently politically and strategically isolated on the international stage.
Possible scenarios of the war were also evaluated during the program. Dr. Ahmad Shahidov stressed that if the Israel-Iran war continues and the Ukraine-Russia war escalates simultaneously, this would create a dual-front risk for the world and seriously threaten global stability.
Speaking about Azerbaijan’s position, the political analyst emphasized that Baku is currently pursuing a balanced policy and is interested in maintaining regional stability. According to him, Azerbaijan, through neutral and smart diplomacy, is both protecting its national interests and working to maintain regional balance.
