Reports about the PKK terrorist organization laying down arms have sparked significant resonance across the Middle East and the region. Speaking to ARB24 Television from Washington, political analyst Dr. Ahmad Shahidov stated that this process is not only a security matter for Turkiye but also a strategic success that expands its regional influence.
According to Dr. Ahmad Shahidov, the armed conflict, ongoing for nearly 40 years, has caused severe human casualties and economic losses in the region: “In the current circumstances, the PKK laying down arms will establish a new geopolitical balance in the Middle East. It will especially strengthen Turkiye’s position in Iraq and Syria. At the same time, the reactions of players like Iran and the United States to this process will be of particular interest.”
The political analyst also pointed out that the PKK’s military power is not the only thing weakening, but its political support base is eroding as well: “If this process succeeds, new opportunities will emerge for stability and economic growth within Turkiye, and the threat of terrorism in the region will significantly decrease.”
According to Dr. Ahmad Shahidov, the upcoming weeks and months will determine which direction this process will take.
