“The Armenian lobby and some members of Congress oppose Trump’s peace initiatives” – Dr. Ahmad Shahidov speaks to ARB24 Television from Washington DC

A new anti-Azerbaijan campaign has been launched in the U.S. Congress at the initiative of the Armenian lobby. More than 60 members of Congress have appealed to the Trump administration, demanding support for the return of Armenians who voluntarily left Karabakh. Experts believe this move aims to disrupt the advancing peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia and to rekindle tensions in the region.

Speaking to ARB24 Television from Washington, political analyst Dr. Ahmad Shahidov said that this appeal by congressmen also seeks to invalidate the results of the Azerbaijan-Armenia leaders’ summit held in Abu Dhabi.

“The fact that both sides declared they do not need a mediator has seriously disturbed the Armenian lobby. They prefer ongoing tension over lasting peace in the region,” he stated.

Shahidov noted that figures such as Frank Pallone, Brad Sherman, and David Valadao have long acted under the influence of the Armenian lobby, and their opposition to the peace process should be understood in this context.

He also mentioned that Donald Trump’s sharing of President Ilham Aliyev’s speech on social media caused panic among Armenian circles: “This marks the beginning of a new era in U.S.-Azerbaijan relations and provokes anger among lobbying groups.”

Recalling that Senators Adam Schiff and Robert Menendez, who have been involved in corruption scandals, have openly supported Armenian separatist movements for years, Shahidov said: “Trump has taken a firm stance against such corrupt politicians. That’s why attacks against him and his peace agenda are happening in an organized manner.”

Finally, he stated that these declarations are not only aimed at Azerbaijan but also serve as a pressure tool against the changing political landscape in the U.S. and Trump’s possible comeback.
