Russia-NATO clash risk rises: Military tensions escalate in Eastern Europe – Ahmad Shahidov comments on REAL Television

In recent days, developments have further strained the security environment in Eastern Europe. Drones reportedly belonging to Russia entered Polish airspace, raising the risk of direct confrontation between NATO and Moscow. At the same time, large-scale Russian military exercises launched in Belarus, along with NATO’s counter “Eastern Sentry” drills, have pushed the regional military balance into an even more fragile state.
Speaking to REAL Television’s “Real Interview” program, political commentator Ahmad Shahidov underlined that the current events are not limited to military maneuvers but also carry strong political messages:
“The ‘Zapad-2025’ exercises in Belarus are Moscow’s clear signal to the West, showing its determination to preserve its influence in the region. On the other hand, NATO’s response drills demonstrate that while the Alliance seeks to avoid direct confrontation with Russia, it is simultaneously reinforcing its defense mechanisms on the eastern flank. The drone incidents over Poland represent the greatest risk, as a single miscalculation could escalate a local military incident into a larger war.”
According to Ahmad Shahidov, the latest statements from world leaders also highlight the seriousness of the situation. U.S. President Donald Trump declared that NATO would respond collectively to any attack. Russian President Vladimir Putin stated in Minsk that “all available means will be used to guarantee Russia’s border security.” Polish President Andrzej Duda, meanwhile, vowed that any violation of his country’s airspace would be met with a firm response.
Political commentator Ahmad Shahidov emphasized that at this stage, maintaining military balance while keeping diplomatic channels open remains of vital importance.
