Anti-Azerbaijan amendments rejected in U.S. Congress – Ahmad Shahidov comments to ARB24 Television

The U.S. House of Representatives Foreign Affairs Committee has rejected two amendments considered during the reauthorization process of the State Department. Both amendments were explicitly anti-Azerbaijan and had long been proposed by Democrat Congressman Brad Sherman from California. The first amendment sought to prohibit the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation from supporting projects in Azerbaijan, while the second proposed removing the U.S. President’s authority to suspend the effect of Section 907 of the “Freedom Support Act.”

This decision demonstrates another defeat for the Armenian lobby in Congress, which opposes U.S. President Donald Trump’s peace initiatives between Armenia and Azerbaijan.

Speaking to ARB24 Television, political analyst Ahmad Shahidov stated, “The rejection of both amendments is an important step for strengthening Azerbaijan’s relations with the U.S. and maintaining a balanced policy in the region. It also shows that the Armenian lobby’s anti-Azerbaijan efforts in the U.S. have failed.”

Ahmad Shahidov further emphasized that continued U.S. project support and humanitarian aid to Azerbaijan are crucial for maintaining strategic balance in the region.
