The 80th session of the UN General Assembly, held in New York, has become one of the most important events on the global agenda. Under the theme “Better together: 80 years and more for peace, development and human rights”, discussions focus on international security, the energy crisis, climate change, and humanitarian issues.
Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev is attending the event, holding key bilateral meetings, and is expected to address the UN podium in the coming days. His speech is anticipated to highlight the new realities after Karabakh, the peace process with Armenia, Azerbaijan’s role in Europe’s energy security, and the country’s commitment to international law.
Speaking to Baku TV, human rights defender Ahmad Shahidov stated that Azerbaijan’s position at the UN podium today attracts attention not only regionally but also globally: “President Ilham Aliyev’s speech in New York is of great importance in terms of presenting Azerbaijan’s full sovereignty over Karabakh to the world and securing international support for the final peace agreement with Armenia. At the same time, with its energy and green diplomacy agenda, Azerbaijan stands out as a reliable partner for Europe. This session will once again reaffirm Baku’s balanced and principled foreign policy.”
Ahmad Shahidov added that Azerbaijan’s commitment to international law and its fair approach to humanitarian issues makes the country a trustworthy participant in global processes.
