The political climate in Armenia is becoming increasingly tense as the upcoming parliamentary elections approach. Ahead of the elections scheduled for June 2026, the growing activity of revanchist forces and rising pressure on the government may affect not only the country’s internal stability but also the regional peace process. Therefore, it is likely that the elections will not be easy and that various political confrontations may arise.
The topic was widely discussed on ARB24 Television’s “Business Morning” program. Guest of the program, human rights defender and political analyst Ahmad Shahidov, noted that the upcoming elections in Armenia will be a major test for the country: “The elections will not be easy, and an increase in internal tensions is possible. This could also have certain effects on the Azerbaijan–Armenia peace process.”
Ahmad Shahidov added that although there is a possibility of the process being delayed or prolonged, Azerbaijan’s principled stance and international support mean that the peace agenda is expected to remain consistently on the table.
Answering questions on the program, Ahmad Shahidov stressed that the coming months will be decisive both for Armenia’s political future and for ensuring stability in the South Caucasus.
