“Azerbaijan stands for peace and international justice in the Middle East” – Ahmad Shahidov spoke on REAL Television

Human rights defender Ahmad Shahidov appeared as a guest on REAL Television’s “First News” program, where he discussed the Middle East peace process, the status of the ceasefire, and the potential deployment of an international stabilization mission. He stated that despite the current relative calm, the ceasefire remains fragile and mutual trust between the parties has not yet been fully restored. According to Shahidov, the agreement brokered by the United States is an important step toward peace, but significant differences between Israel and Hamas persist.

Ahmad Shahidov also commented on Azerbaijan’s stance in this conflict, emphasizing that Baku has always remained committed to the principles of international law. “Azerbaijan maintains its strategic partnership with Israel while respecting the Palestinian people’s right to statehood. Our country supports the two-state solution based on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as the capital of an independent Palestinian state. If an international humanitarian mission is established, Azerbaijan can only participate under a UN mandate and for strictly humanitarian purposes,” he said.

The human rights defender Ahmad Shahidov also addressed the humanitarian catastrophe caused by Israel’s military operations in Gaza and the potential implications of joining the “Abraham Accords.” He noted, “Thousands of civilians have been killed as a result of Israel’s operations, and this clearly constitutes war crimes under international law. Azerbaijan’s position is clear – we are always on the side of peace, justice, and human rights. While joining the Abraham Accords may offer diplomatic opportunities, it also carries potential balance and reputation risks,” Ahmad Shahidov concluded.
