European Parliament’s anti-Azerbaijan resolution discussed on REAL Television

The resolution adopted by the European Parliament on December 18, 2025, containing biased allegations against Azerbaijan, has sparked serious debate both domestically and within international political circles. The document, which is advisory in nature, includes unfounded claims regarding human rights, the judicial system, and internal political processes in Azerbaijan. The resolution was discussed during a program aired on REAL TV, featuring Member of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan Sahib Aliyev and human rights defender and political commentator Ahmad Shahidov.

Speaking during the discussion, Ahmad Shahidov stated that the resolution has no legal force and was drafted purely as a political pressure tool. “This document is not based on facts but rather on the agenda of the Armenian lobby and certain interest groups. For years, the European Parliament remained silent about the occupation of Azerbaijani territories and the violation of the rights of more than one million refugees and internally displaced persons, yet today it demonstrates a clear double standard,” Shahidov said.

According to Ahmad Shahidov, the adoption of the resolution is part of the European Union’s attempt to compensate for its declining political influence in the South Caucasus. “Especially after the progress achieved in the Azerbaijan–Armenia peace process through U.S. mediation, there is visible concern within European institutions. Azerbaijan has become the main initiator of peace and stability in the region, and this reality seriously disturbs certain circles,” he noted. Ahmad Shahidov emphasized that Azerbaijan will not deviate from its course due to such biased documents and will continue to firmly defend its national interests.
