Talks on the Ukraine–Russia war, mediated by the United States and held in Miami, Florida, continue to dominate the international agenda. As of December 20, 2025, these contacts have not resulted in a final peace agreement and remain largely focused on clarifying the positions of the parties involved. Speaking to ARB24 Television, political analyst Ahmad Shahidov stated that the current negotiations represent diplomatic groundwork rather than a genuine breakthrough toward peace.
According to Ahmad Shahidov, the new format proposed by the United States – involving Ukraine, the U.S., Russia, and possibly European representatives – is still at a conceptual stage: “There is no signed document or concrete agreement on the table. The main points of contention are territorial issues and security guarantees for Ukraine. Russia seeks to turn its current military control into a political outcome, while Ukraine considers this unacceptable and insists on real and credible security mechanisms.”
Ahmad Shahidov also emphasized that the situation on the battlefield directly influences the negotiations: “Russia has increased pressure in certain directions, particularly along the Donetsk and Pokrovsk lines, but these advances are not decisive. The war has entered a long-term attritional phase. For this reason, even though the peace process has gained momentum, reaching a compromise in the near future appears highly difficult.”
