Baku and Absheron’s water supply is a strategic security issue – Ahmad Shahidov tells Baku TV

The meeting chaired by President Ilham Aliyev on the State Program for water supply in Baku and the Absheron Peninsula holds a special place on the country’s socio-economic development agenda. During the meeting, existing water-related problems in the capital and surrounding areas, infrastructure renewal, efficient management of water resources, and long-term planning were discussed in detail.

Commenting on the issue to Baku TV, political analyst Ahmad Shahidov said that the President’s direct oversight demonstrates that water supply is being treated as a strategic matter: “This is not merely about municipal services. For Baku and Absheron, water security is directly linked to social stability, quality of life, and future urbanization plans. The fact that problems were openly addressed shows that the state is realistically assessing the situation.”

According to Ahmad Shahidov, the main objective of the State Program is the full modernization of outdated infrastructure, reduction of water losses, and creation of alternative sources: “This program is not designed for short-term results, but for a systematic approach covering the next decades. The key outcome should be tangible improvements in citizens’ daily lives through uninterrupted and high-quality water supply.”
