Discussions held within the framework of the Davos Economic Forum clearly demonstrate that a new phase is taking shape in global politics. Growing disagreements within the European Union and NATO, the United States’ claims regarding Greenland, shifts in the global balance of power, and the declining effectiveness of international security mechanisms have brought the future of the current world order into sharp focus. Against this background, regional conflicts, competition among major powers, and the role of peace initiatives are becoming increasingly important.
Commenting on these developments in an interview with Real Television, political commentator Ahmad Shahidov stated that the messages delivered at the Davos Economic Forum indicate a clear need for a new global political architecture. He noted that President Ilham Aliyev’s speech at the Davos Forum and his interview with Euronews once again highlighted Azerbaijan’s reliable and principled position on the global peace agenda. According to Shahidov, Azerbaijan possesses real experience that enables it to contribute to peace not only at the regional level but also globally.
Ahmad Shahidov also emphasized that at the current stage, international institutions, particularly the United Nations Security Council, are struggling to respond effectively to today’s global challenges, making the creation of new mechanisms inevitable. He underlined that the political council initiative proposed by Donald Trump and Azerbaijan’s acceptance of the offer made within this framework reflect the country’s growing international standing. Drawing on its experience of advancing a peace process with Armenia after a 30-year conflict, Azerbaijan, he said, is well positioned to make meaningful contributions to global peace, including in the Middle East, in the context of the Russia–Ukraine war, and beyond.
