On January 27, the second day of the Winter Session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) continues in Strasbourg. The agenda includes discussions on international security, regional conflicts, human rights, and key political issues facing Europe, while a number of high-level speeches are also expected.
Commenting from PACE, human rights defender Ahmad Shahidov spoke to ARB24 Television. He noted that the main debates focus on the situation surrounding Greenland, the political crisis in the Middle East, peace efforts in Ukraine, and the security of the European continent. He also stated that speeches by several senior officials and foreign ministers are expected to draw particular attention.
Ahmad Shahidov also addressed Azerbaijan–PACE relations, noting that despite the absence of the Azerbaijani delegation from the sessions, critical statements regarding Azerbaijan are expected to be voiced within the Assembly. He said that issues related to recent arrests in Azerbaijan may be raised by some PACE members. At the same time, Shahidov подчеркнул that Azerbaijan remains a full member of the Council of Europe and that returning to this platform in the future would be in line with the country’s national interests.
