The current state of Russia–Azerbaijan relations, the responsibility issue surrounding the AZAL plane incident, and Moscow’s continued refusal to issue a formal apology, as well as the legal and political aspects of the Azerbaijan–Armenia peace agenda, have been central topics in regional discussions. In particular, potential constitutional changes in Armenia and the risks posed by revanchist tendencies are seen as critical factors for the future stability of the South Caucasus.
Political analyst Ahmad Shahidov, speaking on ARB24 Television, emphasized that the AZAL plane incident is not merely a technical matter but must be assessed within the framework of international law and state responsibility. He noted that the delay in a formal apology negatively affects the trust environment in bilateral relations and stressed that the process should be approached through a legal and political framework.
The interview also provided an in-depth analysis of the Azerbaijan–Armenia normalization process. Shahidov highlighted that for sustainable peace, it is essential to remove constitutional provisions in Armenia that contain territorial claims against Azerbaijan. He further described President Ilham Aliyev’s recent warnings to revanchist forces as a clear and strategic signal aimed at preventing new regional confrontations.
