What risks does the Iran–Israel war pose for Azerbaijan? – Ahmad Shahidov comments on ARB24 Television

The military confrontation between Iran and Israel in the Middle East has entered an open war phase, with operations ongoing. Following strikes on Iranian territory, Tehran has responded, and regional escalation is rapidly deepening. At the same time, Iran’s announcement that it has closed the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz has pushed global energy security concerns to a critical level.

Political analyst Ahmad Shahidov stated on ARB24 that the closure of the Strait of Hormuz effectively means the disruption of a significant portion of global oil trade and could trigger sharp price increases in international markets. According to him, the developments are no longer merely a regional security issue but carry the risk of a global economic and geopolitical crisis. He emphasized that the possible involvement of major powers could further expand the geographical scope of the conflict.

The program also analyzed Azerbaijan’s position. Ahmad Shahidov noted that Baku should continue pursuing a balanced and pragmatic policy while maintaining a diplomatic line aimed at preserving regional stability. He underlined that ensuring the security of energy and transit projects, as well as strengthening border and cyber security measures, remains a priority at the current stage.
